Karekare had electricity and street lights 10 years before Auckland did.

Such inventive energy has set the scene for many generations who have called this place home.

The Watchman ridge is most certainly not masculine as the name suggests, but historically feminine in its geological composition, geographic proportion and sumptuous scale.

What is obvious is that the edge of the ridge is wholly at the mercy of the ocean.

This home is a curtsy to the whenua, a nod to the sky and a wink to the ocean.

Folded to simply acknowledge the three elements above, the next thing to do was allocate, public, private and open realms in no specific order.

It’s a little bit of Africa in the South pacific, but more importantly a place for strong women.
